In Three-Thirteen Rummy, players draw and discard cards to form melds of three or more cards. A meld can be either a set of cards with the same number or a run of cards in numerical sequence in the same suit.
Players: You compete against three computerized opponents named Left, Top, and Right.
Card Deck: Three-Thirteen Rummy employs two combined standard decks of playing cards, totaling 104 cards. For a quicker pace, two or four wildcard Jokers can be optionally added to the deck.
Playing the Game:
- Round 1 commences by dealing three cards face-down to each player. The following card from the deck is revealed face-up on the table to start a discard stack. The remaining deck is placed face-down beside the discard pile.
- The player to the dealer's left begins the game. Players can either draw the top card from the discard stack or from the deck. After determining if the new card enhances their hand for a new meld or increases future meld potential, players discard one card face-up onto the discard stack. Play proceeds clockwise around the table.
- Wildcards: In each round, the number of cards in a player's hand designates a "wild" card (e.g., Threes are wild in Round 1). In Rounds 9-11, Jacks, Queens, and Kings respectively serve as wildcards. Optional Jokers act as wildcards in all rounds. Wildcards can substitute for any other card and are instrumental in forming melds. Multiple wildcards are permissible within one meld, including a meld consisting solely of wildcard cards.
- A round concludes when a player forms a meld containing all cards in their hand after discarding. The player declares they are "out," revealing their cards on the table. The remaining players receive one last turn to enhance their hands before points are tallied. Note: Even if a player goes "out" at the start of their turn, they must still draw a card before discarding it.
- When players finish their final turns, points are tallied for cards not in any meld. Cards numbered 2-10 are valued based on their number, while Jacks, Queens, and Kings count as 10 points each. Aces have two valuation options; they can be worth either 1 point when low or 15 points when high - both values are not concurrently used in Three-Thirteen Rummy. Wildcards without a meld value at 15 points each, and Jokers outside any meld contribute 20 points each.
- The deal shifts to the left player, and gameplay advances to the subsequent round. Players are dealt an additional card compared to the prior round. Each new round and those following adhere to steps 2-5 described above.
Winning the Game: Upon completion of Round 11, the player with the fewest points emerges victorious. In case of a tie between two or more players with the lowest score, the "rule of two-tied, all-tied" is enforced, negating any individual win.
